Romería de Manilva June 8 y 9 2013

Manilva celebrates its annual Romería this weekend 8-9th June 2013.

Manilva Romeria

A Romería (Romero means those travelling towards Rome) is a Catholic pilgrimage that consists of a journey on foot, horseback, float or by car/carriage that ends at a religious sanctuary or retreat.

Manilva’s Romería is in honor of “Nuestra Señora de Fátima” begins tonight at 7.30pm with the transfer of the Virgen from the Wine Muesum (normally from the Church of Santa Ana but that is being renovated) in Manilva Village to the San Adolfo Chapel near the Roman Baths.

The procession journeys along the main streets of Manilva accompanied by live music from Manilva’s School of Music’s band “El Sexto Sonido” and followed by lots of people that accompany the walk to the chapel.

When they arrive at the Chapel the pilgrims make a floral offering to the Virgen, Nuestra Señora de Fátima, and say a pray and sing a hymn.

This is followed by a big party with live music and plenty of food and drink which goes on until the early hours of the morning.  Many people, particularly the young, take the opportunity to camp out overnight by the riverside and the area is specially prepared to allow for this.

The proceeds from the bar will go to  the Cofradía Nuestra Señora de los Dolores y Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno brotherhood which has helped organized the event with the help of Manilva Town Halls department of Education and Culture.

On Sunday 9th June at 1pm there will be a Holy Mass in honor of Nuestra Señora de Fátima, and accompanied by the Santa Ana Choir followed by live music by the band “Antidoto” and of course paella for everyone to eat.
