Manilvas beaches are among the best in Malaga !

Manilva’s coastline has been awarded the distinction of being a designated ‘Blue Trail’, the first of its kind in the Province of Malaga by the Environment Ministry and the Biodiversity Foundation.

The ‘Blue Trail’ is the name given to the route that links the numerous prestigious Blue Flag beaches in the Manilva municipality. The award is given to recognise the quality, improvement and restoration of the naturally beautiful coastal area.

The Blue Trail allows tourists and residents to enjoy the 7.8km of Manilvas beach coastline with maximum enjoyment and minimal impact to the environment. Manilvas beaches are an excellent area for social and recreational activities throughout the year.

New Footbridge connecting the Casares Costa and Sabinillas promenades

Antonia Muñoz, the Mayoress of Manilva signed an agreement for work to commence connecting the promenades of Marina de Casares and Sabinillas. The 2 meter wide footbridge will span the 41 meters over the mouth of the Rio Manilva. The project costing 131,183Euros has commenced on the 19th May 2014 and i expected to be completed within 3 months.

The project is long awaited and will make a huge impact to all residents in Sabinillas and Casares Costa allowing easy pedestrian access between the 2 popular areas. The project is one of many completed and approved projects to improve and connect areas the beachfront promenade along the 7.8km of Manilva coastline.

Spain growing in tourism popularity

The tourism statistics for 2013 have been released and they confirm that Spain and Andalucia especially have grown in tourism popularity in 2013. The percentage of tourists in 2013 was over 60 million, an increase of 5.6% which was higher than the global average of 5%. Britain remained Spain’s most important market, accounting for 23.6% of total visitors, followed by Germany with 16.2%, and France with 15.7%. An independent survey showed increasing numbers of overseas visitors opting out of package holidays. Some 42.4 million, or 69.9% of total visitors, decided to make their own arrangements either in self catering accommodation or private hotels, an increase of 6.8% over 2012. A staggering 21 million of the total visitors which is approximately 1 in 3 people chose to visit Andalucia for an average holiday of 12 days. More good news is that the average spend per day in Andalucia was 52€ compared to 68€ in the rest of Spain confirming that Andalucia is still providing great value holidays.

At this time of year indoor play centres are a fantastic place to stay warm and have a great time. There are numerous indoor play centres within a 30 minute drive from Duquesa including La Galaxia, Kidz Kingdom and Pequeland are amongst the most popular. Our familys favourite is Hipica Park based in Sotogrande.

Facilities at Hipica Park include a large indoor soft play area, Cafeteria, bouncy castles, karting and large outdoor play park. The adjoining Sotogrande Hipica horse stables and La Reserva Golf and cork forest make the setting very tranquil and picturesque.

Its not everyday an Owl lands on your head….

A family day out to La Pequena Africa was memorable to day the least. After the initial shock of being surrounded by Osterich, dear and an array of goats, sheep and birds i actually thoroughly enjoyed the unique experience. After all its not every day you get to lunch within 10 meters of a zeal of Zebras.

La Pequena Africa is located in Estacion de Jimena next to the the picturesque village of Jimena de la Frontera.

La Pequena Africa have truly tried to replicate the experience of being in Africa starting with a jungle walk leading to an open hillside trail where the majority of animals roam free. The dangerous animals including, camels, tigers and large buffalo are of course caged. At the summit of the hillside there is a small lake where you can enjoy boat rides and an open area where the birds are displayed. One of the highlight of our day was my daughter being selected from the crowd to have a hat and meat placed on her head for an Owl to come and swoop and land on.

La Pequena Africa is superb value for money. The entrance prices are 12€ for adults and 6€ for children which includes the bird display, boat rides, pony rides and a craft activities. The staff couldnt be more helpful and there is a superb and excellently priced restaurant. Its is open every weekend and bank holiday apart from July and August. Running along the Duquesa & Sabinillas Promenade

Temperatures in October are still at about 25’C. This coupled with bright blue skies and little wind make it the perfect climate to enjoy outdoor pursuits in Duquesa. Today was the day i decided to dust of my running shoes and hit the promenade. Manilva is such a fantastic location to run as the beach and miles of promenade make it the ideal place to either enjoy a long run or to start out on the road to getting fit. With views like these it just makes running even more pleasurable.

Duquesa Beach at this time of year is the ultimate place to relax. The beaches are almost deserted, they are immaculately maintained and the sea can be lovely and calm.

My halfway point in my run at the moment is the beautiful El Castillo Castle in El Castillo Village.  This stunning castle in just above the beach and is a popular venue for weddings, art exhibitions and local music and charity events.

This stretch of the promenade is also great to appreciate some of the most luxurious developments in Duquesa including Los Granados and Marina del Castillo. The new campsite of Bella Vista Camping is one of the most prestigious camping sites in the Costa del Sol. This also enjoys a frontline beach location on Duquesa promenade.
