Big changes at The English Bookshop in Sabinillas

Filed under: Local Businesses — Lucy @ 5:38 pm

Looking out from Solbank the other day I noticed that The English Bookshop sign had been replaced by another.

The English Bookshop, Sabinillas

The English Bookshop is now called The Bookshop and Steve the owner is making even more improvements to the range of products and services he will be offering.

I went in there today and they are installing  post boxes.  These will be ideal for people who have problems receiving their post securely in their homes and for those that order from websites such as Amazon etc and need an address that isnt a PO Box number as they will be able to use The Bookshops address.

Also for those of you fed up with queuing at the Spanish post office, Steve offers an alternative via Offex.  You can send cards or parcels at very competitive prices to the Correo service and they arrive just as quick if not quicker as they get sent via Monarch airlines to Gatwick on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday and then get popped into the local Royal Mail box.  I tried out this service  a couple of weeks ago and after handing it to Steve on the Wednesday, my package reached its destination the following Monday – and that was the week that it snowed heavily in England!

One last thing for you forgetful “romantics” – its Valentines Day on Thursday and The Bookshop has a wide range of Valentine Cards for you to choose from.

Pop in and see Steve and his lovely parrot Ava and find out more information on the products and services he has.

Give Manilva a treat this Christmas….

Manilva’s department of trade and industry has organised  a campaign to encourage people to buy some of their gifts in the local shops this Christmas and thus help the economy of the Municipality.
Diego Díaz, Councillor for Trade and Industry  (Delegacion de Comercio) has announced the rules of this campaign which allows for everyone to participate on equal terms and have an equal chance of getting the benefits.

The campaign starts on December 3rd 2012 and runs until January 2, 2013 with the draw being held a day after its completion.

Campaign to invest in Manilva this Christmas

Give yourself a treat in Manilva

The campaign is called “En Navidad regalaté Manilva, compra en tu barrio, invierté  en tu pueblo.”  I have had a little trouble working out the English translation and am not sure if they are trying to say you give Manilva a present or treat yourself to Manilva or give Manilva a treat…can anyone help me! 🙂  But I think the essence is that we need to help our wonderful Municipality and those that have businesses here by spending some of the money we spend at Christmas by buying things from shops in Manilva pueblo, Sabinillas, La Duquesa and Castillo de La Duquesa.

The rules of  ‘ In Christmas, treat yourself to Manilva’, are:
-Only local retailers from the municipality of Manilva may participate in this program.
– Any person of legal age can participate, but not the owners and employees of an establishment with its own vouchers.
-The inscription must be done at the premises of the trade delegation situated in C/ Miguel Delibes S/n, Edf. de Usos Múltiples de Sabinillas. You can also do it by phoning 952 89 35 07.
-From the Town Hall will be delivery to each establishment a stubs 2 of 100 ballots each, for each voucher 15 euros offered by the establishment.
-From the establishment will be delivery to its customers from 1 participation for a purchase of 10 € or more.
-Prizes: Both vouchers discount of 15 euros as specific gifts to holders of winning ballots.
-The total amount of the award will need to spend in the same establishment in which the winning ticket has been delivered.
-The presentation of the award will be at the date agreed upon by the trade delegation and the winner of the prize. With a maximum period of 15 days after the draw.
-If the prize is not claimed, will be allocated to a future campaign equally to the promotion of local trade.
-The Organization reserves the right to publicize the name or image of the winner by the means or forms of communication that creates convenient, for the time deemed necessary and without any compensation to the same.
-When on the Bases not attributable to the Organization and unforeseen circumstances so warrant, the organization may if same, cancel, suspend or modify totally or partially the campaign without generating right to compensation in favour of dealers or participants.
-In all matters not provided, the organization can solve or establish the applicable criterion, inspiring the solution in the spirit of the campaign.

If you have a business that is going to participate in this campaign, please let me know and I will help promote what you are offering.  Likewise if anyone can recommend some great shops or gift ideas that you can buy in our wonderful Municipality of Manilva please let me know.

Sailing in Estepona

Filed under: Local Businesses,Sport — Barrington Homes @ 6:36 pm

I have recently had to organise a team building event for a friend of mine who was in the Duquesa area for a business meeting. Andalucia and the Costa del Sol have a lot to offer with our miles of coastline, mountain ranges and countryside, so I was at a loss or rather I was confused by the choice on offer and where to begin.

That is when ExperienceBox came to rescue and I don´t regret using the Company for second. Rob, my contact was extremely professional, affable and accommodating and took all the stresses of organising an event from me.

Eventually they chose to do a mini regatta from Estepona sailing club, with a team of 16 having a race in 3 sailing boats along the Estepona shore-line. The day ended with Paella and drinks in the Club Nautico in Estepona. The delegates were all fully insured, photos taken and extremely well looked after by Rob and his team. ExperienceBox organize events from 1 person to huge corporate events so even if you are only looking for a special gift for a loved one, Rob and his team can accommodate you. From Cookery Classes in Andalusia to a day racing cars, learning to apply make up or mixing a cocktail there is something for everybody.

The English Bookshop Sabinillas

Filed under: Local Businesses — Barrington Homes @ 1:49 pm

Just before Christmas I wrote about the English Bookshop in Sabinillas as a great local business from which to make your Christmas purchases.

Well, I don’t like to discuss Christmas 2012 already  but Steve now has all of the Christmas stock on sale, so taking into consideration calls for austerity, it may be worth paying Steve a visit and stocking up for Christmas 2012 at a 25% discounted price.

Happy New Year to you all and peace and prosperity in 2012!

Last minute Christmas bits!

Filed under: Local Businesses — Barrington Homes @ 9:45 pm

For any last minute Christmas bits and bobs such as Christmas cards, wrapping paper, crackers, gifts or even balloons, don’t forget The English bookshop in Sabinillas.

Steve, the” not so new anymore” owner of the English Book Shop has changed this local business beyond recognition and after much rearranging, the brighter and sleeker version of the bookshop has become an Aladdin’s cave for all local bookworms!!

The children’s section of books has been greatly improved and evoked many memories for me when I set eyes upon such classics as Heidi and The Magic Faraway Tree. Steve even supplies packets of retro candies such as Pear Drops and American Hard Gums for the children or indeed the child in you!

For gifts, there is a fantastic selection of cook books, novels, language books, dictionaries, maps, 2012 diaries, bookmarks and as always the selection of second hand books is vast.

It is fantastic to see enthuiasm and investment in our local town of Sabinillas so support Steve and pay him a visit. The English bookshop in Sabinillas is the place to pick up all of the free local newspapers and you will always pick up useful local information.

Steve’s opening hours are Monday to Friday 9.30 – 14.30 / 16.00 – 19.00 and Saturday 10.00 – 14.00 and is located near to Mercadona in Sabinillas.
